Hello from Gentoo!

Well. This is.. funny. I guess? I wrote about me trying out Linux Mint, yesterday. I talked about much I liked it and all that. Anyway. I ended the post with the following text:

Some day, I might get bored with Linux Mint, and would like to go back to Gentoo again.

It would turn out that, that “one day” would be the day after me publishing the post. Why? Well. When I sat down last night, trying to get some actual work done, I got kinda annoyed with how stacking window managers work. And I felt a bit distracted by all the eyecandy when I tried to focus get things done.

I guess, that eyecandy desktop setups doesn’t work for me, after all. It was fun trying it out though. I’m still going to keep Linux Mint around, and tinker with it from time to time. I might even use it for a day or so when I get bored of Gentoo the next time.

Honestly, nearly anything you can do with a tiling window manager you can do with a stacking window manager. It just takes some trivial scripting and assigning the hotkeys but then you have all the benefits of both once it's done.

It's like Gentoo itself: plenty of work to set up exactly how you want it and then you almost never have to change anything and you have a setup perfect for you.

The Mighty Buzzard: I don't fully agree with the window manager part. While you can do a decent amount of things with a stacking window managers, they tend to lack a lot of features that's common with tiling window managers. :)
